Kalithea Bay has been famous for its therapeutic springs from before the age of the Knight Templers. The present spa was built by the Italians in 1928, has been recently renovated and now includes a small museum and gallery. Kalithea means beautiful view in Greek and this stunning bay certainly lives up to its name. Most dive and snorkeling operators moor at a platform a little outside the main bay. Please be aware that there is no direct access to the beach of Kalithea.
Kalithea Bay is renowned for its underwater caverns and unusual rock formations. The caverns are very open, easily accessible to qualified divers and home to a wide variety of Mediterranean sponges and soft corals. A topography including caverns, rock overhangs, sea grass and sand provides a huge diversity of Mediterranean Sea life. Add to this the gradual change in the salinity of the Mediterranean, bringing with it many fish from the red sea, and you have a dive to remember.
