The island is blessed with rocky beaches in the west, green, in flowers covered hills, in the center and golden sunbathing beaches in the east. To see the real Rhodes, it is best to rent a car and explore some of the quieter inland villages especially far away to the south.

You can explore the famous street of knights (Ippoton Street) and its Archaeological Museum. Rhodes town but also Faliraki are your best bet to find some real nightlife while Monte Smith and Sianna are two typical traditional villages. Inland you can explore the remote town of Embona which also serves as a starting point for hikes up to 1215 meter high Mount Ataiiros. Some of the popular activities on Rhodes are Petaloudes, transformed from June to September in the Valley of the Butterflies or a visit to the Tsambika Monastery, the Monolithos Castle or Seven Springs.
Water sport enthusiasts have much to choose from in Rhodos. Its sun-drenched beaches are populated with shops selling banana boat rides, jet skis, kayaks or windsurfing gear. Snorkeling and scuba diving is especially popular on the southeastern shores with popular spots such as Ladiko Bay, Lindos and Plimiri. To get an impression one might visit the Marine Aquarium in the center of Rhodes Town. You can dive pretty coral reefs, some interesting shipwrecks or one of its many caves, caverns and swimmthroughs. Some of the underwater species found in Rhodes are shrimps, nudibraches and moray eels. It is a pretty island with a mild yeararound climate perfect for some scuba diving and snorkeling.
