Best dive-season / How to get there: The only airport in the Sporades can be found on Skiathos and Skyros. All other islands can only be reached by ferry from mainland Agios Constantinos. The Sporades is an archipelago in the Aegean Sea consisting out of 24 islands located at the east side of Thessaly, Greece. East of the Trikeri Channel you will find the larger inhabited islands Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos and Skyros. They are known for its superb holiday destination, clear azul colored seas, mountainous hinterland, charming villages and dense vegetation. Other smaller islands include Peristera, Skatzoura, Kyra Panagia, Gioura and Piperi which are all equally beautiful but require tours or private charters to visit.
Trikeri, actually not part of the Sporades but nevertheless included in this section, is a touristic village, beautifully situated on a hill with views across the Pagasitic Gulf, Evoean Gulf and Pelion Peninsula. The Trikeri Channel is home to the world renowned Lefteris Reef with its many shipwrecks. Skiathos is the most crowded island with superb nightlife, shopping, hotels and all tourists can wish for. Skopelos is a relatively quiet and unspoiled island with plenty of nice beaches. The marine park at Alonisson and Peristera is known as the second largest underwater collection of ancient and middle ages ship wrecks. Skyros is the largest of the Sporades known for its Byzantine castle and monastery. Vacationers will find many isolated beaches and rocky coasts, perfect for activities in nature or just to relax. The Sporades is a popular destination for sail yachts and you will find many of them in one of its scenic harbors. Scuba divers are treated with a seabed filled of shipwrecks, both from modern times as from the ancient Greek. Marine life and soft corals are plentiful and have created a very diverse and colorful dive destination.
